Soften Your Room With Fabric Walls…

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

A great way to soften a room or add some pop is to drape fabric or upholster an accent wall.  It can be unexpected and add fun or sophistication, depending on the fabric that you select.  Below are some great ways to pull off this look in your home.  If you are planning on draping fabric, it is important that you use hardware that cannot be seen.  This is one place that drapery hardware would be a distraction.

Room With A View…

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

Take a look at this breath-taking room in Laguna Beach, California.  Not only are its ceilings glass, but one wall has glass doors that collapse to completely remove the wall, and the adjacent wall is all windows.  This is a most glamorous way to feel like you are outdoors.  The interior design is quite simple and elegant, complimenting the phenomenal architecture.  This room begs for entertaining.  It is a “live” room, because the art of a sunrise or sunset is ever changing…we at Colby Design love it!

Stairways – An Unexpected Way To Excite…

Friday, April 15th, 2011

When most people think of stairways, they think of a way to get to a second floor.  Most builders, architects, and interior designers pay some attention to stairs, making them aesthetically appealing, but you’ve never seen anything like these stairs that follow.  They look like they defy the laws of physics…cantilevered and hovering, like modern art.

Stephen Antonson – Sculptor of Plaster

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

Stepehen Antonson is an amazing sculptor.  His material of choice?  Plaster.  Chalky, white powdered gypsum, mixed with water, “is the stuff of dreams” to the artist.  Antonson was inspired when a friend came back from Paris raving about plaster furniture and lamps made from plaster, circa 1930.  He began making creations for he and his wife, and the rest is history.  Now, Antonson is a one-man-show, working for interior designers on commissioned pieces.  We think his things are very artful and fun.

“The In Your Space team has created award-winning custom wall finishes in both commercial and residential spaces. Combining centuries-old plaster techniques with modern materials and an artist’s flair for color composition, In Your Space helps to create spaces that are unique, timeless and inviting.

In Your Space works with luxury home builders, commercial contractors, interior designers, and directly with individual homeowners to make each finished product a reflection of the client’s personal taste and style.

Unlike process or technique faux finishing, our artists study architecture, design, and classical art to inspire the re-creation of authentic wall design. Each space is a blank canvas that is transformed into not merely textured walls, but a fully created atmosphere that is the backdrop for the design of
the space.”

Clearly Good Interior Design…

Friday, April 1st, 2011
