A “Cool” Feeling Bath…

Gray tones produce a feeling of coolness, especially when incorporated via marble or tile.  The guest bath pictured below is a prime example.  The gray marble, combined with the blue counter top and the mirrored vanity cabinet is refreshing.  We like that the theme is carried from the bedroom, as is seen in the mirror’s reflection of the blue drapes hanging there.  Another nice thing about this bath is that is that while it is cool, it is not cold.  If you would like to get this look, let Colby Interior Design get you there!

‘Tis The Season…

The Christmas Season is upon us!  We at Colby Design just love the holiday season…it is a whole new reason to create a different look in your home, which is something that every designer loves.  Because you are probably about to (or already have) pulled the decorations out, we want to pass along a holiday decor tip.  Decorate your tree and your space in colors that reflect your room’s color scheme.  That simple concept will transform the whole room (instead of just the corner where your tree is), into something that looks sophisticated and carries a common thread throughout the space.  Below are some examples. Fun with Ikat…

While Ikat is a traditional method of weaving fabrics that has been around for centuries, it is being given new life continuously through fabric designers worldwide.  It can be a great way to throw in a bold dose of color or fun to any space.  Check out some of our Ikat finds below.

Betsy Eby – Artist

Betsy Eby is an artist who creates beautiful organic art…with a blowtorch.  Her art is inspired by nature, layering elements between sheets of purified beeswax and filtered dammer crystals to create visual depth to her creations.  As a  pianist, Eby’s  art reflects the scales and measures of music beautifully.  We love the movement that Eby seems to infuse within her paintings.  For more from Betsy Eby, visit www.betsyeby.com

The Union Jack Makes a Beautiful Rug.

A well-known symbol is made into a distressed looking rug by Vivienne Westwood for The Rug Company.  This is a great take on something very old, and would fit perfectly in Austin homes, both for modern interior design and traditional interior design.  It instantly brightens up a space with its rich colors, and we think it is just plain fun.

A Peach Colored Room…Vibrant And Soothing.

Peach is a color that most people are very opinionated about…they either love it or they hate it.  I think that the room below could potentially blur the line between the two camps.  The idea of painting a peach room in your home might actually frighten some of you, and you might dismiss it as “not an option.”  While this color is traditionally a feminine one, the use of clean lines and the introduction of a more rustic decor serve to create a masculine sensibility about the otherwise effeminate color.

Garden Stools Or Tables…

With summer here, you are probably going to find yourself outside more and more.  We at Colby Design love interesting little tables…especially when they are extremely versatile.  Take these garden stools below – they are a great addition for just about any room in your home, as well as outside on your patio or deck.  They can fit cozily between two chairs to set a drink on, or they could become a seating area all on their own.  This is also just a taste of the hundreds of styles and colors that are available, sure to fit any home decor.

Monochromatic is Dramatic.

“Monochromatic color schemes are derived from a single base hue, and extended using its shades, tones and tints (that is, a hue modified by the addition of black, gray (black + white) and white. As a result, the energy is more subtle and peaceful due to a lack of contrast of hue. Monochromatic color schemes may be considered boring unless there is diversity within the design.” – Wikipedia

Wikipedia is right – Monochromatic rooms can be boring.  If I say, “grey room,” you might think, “That sounds really dreary.”  But, if the grey color scheme is implemented correctly, like the room below, the result is stunning!  Check out this room, as well as some other basically single colored rooms that I have included for good measure.  Enjoy!
