The Lille Sconce…

Monday, February 28th, 2011

The Lille sconce by Nierman Weeks is inspired by falling feathers, and looks very “Austin”.  It is constructed of tiny crystal stems, stacked into a sculptural feather-like form that we think is both unique and beautiful, creating understated elegance in interior design.  This is a sizable sconce, that could be stunning in a dining room, foyer, or even in grand master bath.

Powder Baths…A Dramatic Design Opportunity

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

Powder baths are great places to introduce a little bit of drama into your home.  The are small spaces, allowing you to get a lot of “wow factor” for your design buck.  It is the perfect place to use some wallpaper with punch, interesting lighting, and great plumbing fixtures.  Powder baths are a great spot to bring in the unexpected, and your guests will love it!

“Loud Speakers for Art Lovers”

Monday, January 31st, 2011

TON Art has the “Battle of the Sexes” resolved…it is a tie!.  Well, maybe just as far as home entertainment goes.  Women typically want their home entertainment spaces to be aesthetically pleasing, first.  We want the equipment to be non-intrusive.  Men, while also wanting the space to look good, typically are striving for function over form.  Here is where TON Art comes in…they have created speakers that are completely hidden in art forms, and they are beautiful.  They are a great resource for interior designers to utilize in order to please both husbands and wives.   Below are two examples of their creations.  One is a “tabletop” piece, the other is wall art.  For more from TON Art, visit www.tonartllc.com

Atlantis.

Friday, January 21st, 2011

Barlas Baylar’s Atlantis chandelier is an instant favorite here at Colby Design.  Its organic shape and shimmery nickel finish is dazzling.  It is constructed of nickel chain (almost like jewelry), draped from a nickel plated frame.  The entire line of chandeliers are grand in scale (the one seen below is 29″ x 36″ x 69″ H), and would add that “wow” factor to your dining room here in Austin.

A Room With a View

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

Outdoor rooms are great, especially with the weather in Austin, Texas.  The surroundings provide most of the decor, so all one has to do is set up a compfortable place to sit and enjoy what nature has already provided…of course, accent lighting and just the right splashes of color through proper fabric selection does go a long way.

Stiletto Chandelier

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

Smooth beveled glass rods and hand-polished stainless steel work together to create this fantastic chandelier.  Inspired by glamourous stilettos and the fashionabale women who wear them, Charles Loomis’ design is a celebration of style, which is what interior design is all about.

Sophisticated White…

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

What we love about the villa below is the simple sophistication in its interior design.  White walls create a light and airy feel that compliments the rich hardwood floors.   The soft walls  also create a great backdrop for “statement art” to really pop, and they also allow the vast windows to do what they are meant to do:  bring in natural light and allow the natural surroundings to create focal points, rather than distract the eye.

Minerals For You & Your Home.

Friday, December 3rd, 2010

Check out this cool way to look at something old.  Brenda Houston has designed a line of jewelry and lighting that uses minerals in a new way.  We love her use of raw materials to create something unique and edgy for you or your interior space.
